Background
Mary worked her way through college, earning her degree in hotel management while working at the fictional Montecito Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. She's poised to make the leap from assistant to director of special events when her father was released from jail, where he had been since Mary testified against him as a teenager. He became fixated with making her pay for what she had done. Mary moved twice to elude him before becoming a virtual prisoner in the Montecito, where round the clock security could only protect her when she was on the property. Finally, security director Ed Deline found a way to sneak her out of Las Vegas, with the hopes that Frank Connell would not be able to follow her trail.
Where Canon and Character go separate ways
Instead of keeping her father's abuse to herself as she did in canon, Mary got help as a teenager. She went to live with the McCoy family and testified against her father, who was convicted and sent to jail.[1]
