Background
Daniel Jackson was born to Claire and Melburne Jackson on a hot and sunny day in Cairo, Egypt. He lived a happy, exciting life as the only child of two well-known and respected archaeologists, learning languages and about dead cultures at an age when most kids were running around outside playing tag. He traveled the whole of Egypt and a large part of the lands surrounding the Mediterrannean Ocean in his younger years.
When Daniel was eleven, his parents realised, after a rather startling trip to New York City, that their son needed to learn more about the 'American' way of life, and shipped him off to live with his grandfather, Nicholas Ballard, in Eschatos, South Carolina.
Shortly before Daniel's seventeenth birthday, his grandfather was committed to a psychiatrict hospital after being declared mentally incompentent and delusional. Daniel, rather than going back to Egypt with his parents, pleaded to stay in the States with his friends. His parents eventually gave in and let him stay, turning over temporary guardianship of Daniel to the Mitchell family.
Where Canon and Character go separate ways
Right from the beginning. Canon Daniel was born in 1964, this Daniel was born in 1991. His parents are alive and the Stargate program doesn't exist as far as he knows.
